Uley Jnct. and Uley Road

Charles Rudder

Uley Junction (7mm/ft Finescale ‘O’ Gauge) has been expanded with the addition of an outdoor extension that provides continuous running capabilities as well as enhancing scheduled (timetable) running. Uley Junction was originally conceived as a fiddle yard to terminus layout, based on Bodmin General – refer G0G Small Layouts 3. But as an end-to-end layout there was something missing – the ability to just set trains in motion and watch them go by…

What has now been built (a COVID project) is a continuous circuit with a lead in from the Uley Junction fiddle yard. The continuous circuit has a through station (Uley Road) and trains needing to go back to the Uley Junction terminus are to be reversed at this station via run-around loops - just like Bodmin Road in real life. However, unlike Bodmin Road, a turntable has been added to turn locomotives. Otherwise, trains can continue around the circuit ad-infinitum on either of two tracks or in both directions simulating mainline trains. And there is another fiddle yard with traverser that represents the LSWR from Padstow via Wadebridge, etc.
