In East Frisia, a region in the far north-west of Germany, ran the metre-gauge railway Leer Aurich Wittmund. The railway had to cross many watercourses along the way. Navigable watercourses were crossed using swing bridges. In addition to the railway traffic, this video shows the processes involved in opening a bridge and a ship crossing, in the model.  All the mechanisms of the bridge are modelled to scale according to an original drawing.
