Dave Lowery's 'Train Set'
For the past 35 years as a modelmaker, I have enjoyed working with the real railways producing models and layouts/
A key job with EWS resulted in me building models of their wagons built by Thrall at York. As a result, I then built a rake of wagons for myself which made them unique to my railway.
It really grew from there once I managed to secure the drawings. With my wife’s help and her knowledge of CorelDraw, she drew up the artwork for the etches undertaken by Grainge and Hodder. I did the masters for the white metal castings produced by my Teranti casting machine.
The next major breakthrough was meeting Simon of Simon BR Blue fame who has now produced some of the difficult shaped wagons with 3D printing.
Currently, there are 108 wagons from 20 different wagon designers and at least another four more wagons planned.
Traction is PRMRP class 66s, 67s and 69s. Oh yes, there is a passenger train, but that will increase with Peter’s new HST and Skytrex Mk IIIs, although I really want to do an 805, but need the drawings (anyone please?).
The layout is really two circuits with 4 aspect signalling while the other 80% of the trackwork is storage sidings to hold the 14-16ft long trains. Reverse loops allow all the rains to run on all the tracks in both directions; fully DCC operated with sounds and extras such as thunder and lightning supplied by Bryan Robertson.
